ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate effect of orthodontic force on inflammatory periodontal tissue remodeling and expression of IL-6 and IL-8 in rats.@*METHODS@#Eighty SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, blank control group (group A) with 5 rats, treatment normal group (group B) with 25 rats, inflammation control group (group (group C) with 25 rats, inflammation treatment group (group D) with 25 rats. Immunohistochemistry and histomorphometric analysis was performed to measure the expression of IL-6, IL-8 and the first molar to the recent movement in the distance.@*RESULTS@#The expression of IL-8 reached a maximum on day 5 and declined thereafter in group B; the expression of IL-6 reached a maximum on day 5 in group B. The expression of IL-6 and IL-8 was gradually weakened with time in group C. The expression of IL-6 and IL-8 were high, and reached a maximum on day 5 and declined thereafter in group D. AD of positive cells in group D were higher than group B at each time point (P<0.05). The time which 0.49 N orthodontic force was loaded was longer, orthodontic tooth movement distance was greater. Movement distance in group D were longer than group B (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Orthodontic force as well as inflammatory stimulus can evoke the expression of IL-6 and IL-8. Under the combined effects of inflammation and orthodontic force, the expression of IL-6, IL-8 will increase.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore a better operative approach to resect complicated pelvic retroperitoneal tumors.

METHODSA total of 28 patients with complicated pelvic retroperitoneal tumors who received surgical resection in our hospital from 2006 to 2010 were included in this study. The surgical operation was assisted with an arc-shaped transperineal incision in front of the apex of coccyx. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, death toll and length of hospital stay of the patients were retrospectively analyzed.

RESULTSThe median operation time was 122.5 minutes. The median blood loss was 420 ml, and the median length of hospital stay of the patients was 17.5 days. There was no postoperative death in this group of patients.

CONCLUSIONWith the assistance of this arc-shaped transperineal incision in front of the apex of coccyx, the resection of pelvic retroperitoneal tumors can be effectively improved and the surgery risk is reduced.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical effects of reshaping the nasal tip with autologous nasal septum cartilage combined with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) and autologous auricular cartilage grafts.

METHODSThe nasal septal cartilage combined with ePTFE (group A, 70 cases) and autologous auricular cartilage grafts (group B, 48 cases) were used separately. The therapeutic effect and operation time were compared using the t-test or the χ²-test by the SPSS 12.0 software.

RESULTSThe mean operation time (x(-) ± s) in group A was less than those in group B and the difference was significant (t = 13.258, P = 0.000). The width of nasal tip equal to (6 - 8) mm was found in 67 cases (95.7%) in group A, and 46 cases (95.8%) in group B. There was no statistically significant difference between group A and group B (χ² = 0.001, P = 0.996). The correction result of the nasal tip projection, angle of ration, the included angle of nasal dorsum and nasal columella and the height of the nasal tip did not show statistically significant difference between group A and group B (χ² value were 0.001, 0.069, 0.149, 0.073, respectively, all P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe autologous nasal septal cartilage combined with ePTFE and autologous auricular cartilage grafts showed similar clinical effect.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of importing triamcinolone acetonide into hypertrophic scars with skin roller needles.

METHODSThirty-two cases with burn hypertrophic scar were treated. The skin roller needles were moved back and forth on the hypertrophic scars with triamcinolone acetonide dropping on the scar surface at the same time. So the triamcinolone acetonide could be imported into the scar through needles and needle holes. The effect was evaluated as cured, effective, and no effect. The Vancouver scaring criteria and visual analogue scale was used to assess the scar color, thickness, texture and feeling before and after treatment, as well as at the untreated scar area (control).

RESULTSThirty-two cases were treated 1-3 times, including 28 cases with cured result and 4 cases with effective result. The total effective rate was 100%. The scar color, thickness, texture and feeling was significantly different between the scar before and after treatment, or between the treated and untreated scar (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSImporting triamcinolone acetonide into hypertrophic scars with skin roller needles is effective. It is a new method for the treatment of large hypertrophic scar with medicine.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to explore the effect of culture system from embryonic fibroblasts and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) on expansion of mouse bone marrow hematopoietic progenitor cells ex vivo, and to observe its effect on the expression of homing-related cell adhesion molecules among VLA-4 (CD49e), VLA-5 (CD49e), LFA-1 (CD11a), HCAM (CD44) and L-selectin (CD62L). The culture system from the mouse embryonic fibroblasts inactivatd by mitomycin C and contained LIF was used to culture with mouse BMMNC for 7 days. The total number of BMMNC, CFC, Sca-1(+) cells, cell apoptosis rate and the expression of above cell adhesion molecules were counted. The results showed that culture system consisted of embryonic fibroblasts and LIF significantly enhanced the total number of BMMNC, CFC, Sca-1(+) cells, suppressed cell apoptosis (P < 0.05). In control without MEF and LIF, the total number of BMMNC was reduced remarkedly, CFC and Sca-1(+) cells were completely dead, the majority of cells produced apoptosis (P < 0.01). The expression of CD49d, Cd44 and CD61L on Sca-1(+) cells were similar to that befor expression (P < 0.05), but the expression of CD49e and CD11a on Sca-1(+) cells were remarkably increased (P < 0.05). It is concluded that culture system from embryonic fibroblasts and LIF can only significantly expand mouse bone marrow hematopoietic progenitor cells ex vivo, but the expanded hematopoietic progenitor may well sustain the expression of homing-related adhesion molecules. The homing functions of these expanded hematopoietic progenitors kept no change.
